THE RISE UP MISSION

To educate and empower students and faculty to positively change how we view and handle mental health in our schools. The program’s initial launch was designed to educate students on the importance of mental health, but after much practical research and application, I knew there had to be a better way. I wanted to make a lasting impact, so I decided to target the biggest influencers in most kids’ lives… Their teachers and coaches. The kids are spending just as much, if not more, time at school, and often school faculties have the most significant impact on students’ thought processes.

To give you a brief description, the first phase of the program aims to educate school faculties on how to work with students to equip them with the tools and strategies to fight the battle of mental health.

From detecting early warning signs all the way to mental health first aid, RISE UP challenges school faculties to lead the way and influence the next generation. Educators will learn how to introduce mental fitness into their current curriculum not to take away from their already doing but to enhance their abilities in the classroom. As a result, they will be better equipped to positively help their students through emotional situations, thus improving the student-teacher experience. We believe this will lead to more emotionally fit students and improve educational effectiveness in the classroom.

Educators hold a special place in my heart since both my parents are teachers and coaches. In fact, I was raised by a committee of educators that have taught me essential life skills that I carry with me today. From watching my parents, I saw the powerful impact they had on so many, and I want to empower our communities’ teachers and coaches to be a positive influence and lead by example.

Phase two of the program is a student-led organization that will tap into students’ intrinsic need for peer community. Not only will the students have a program of topics to learn and discuss each week, but they will also have a safe place to talk about what’s going on around campus. The importance of this group is action. Students will grow in their knowledge of personal growth, emotional fitness, and mental health but also engage in incentive-based monthly challenges. We encourage the student to put these lessons into practice and pay them forward. We have big plans for the program’s future, such as student scholarships and mentorship incentives.

Now is your chance to join the movement and help give back to those who have helped mold us, as well as influence the next generation. It takes a village, and we want you to help us make an impact by creating true change in the way we handle mental health in schools.
